St Francis veterinary hospital has a committed team of 21 members, a reception area and pet shop, 3 consulting rooms, 1 theatre, separate dog and cat wards, a laboratory and pharmacy area, a high care ward, a radiology ward and a contagious disease isolation ward. Our entire healthcare team is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual pet and pet owner.

Prescription Medication Policy
At St Francis Veterinary Hospital, your pet’s health and wellbeing are our priority. We follow the guidelines of the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) and SAHPRA to ensure the safe and responsible use of prescription medication.
Prescription Medication
- Please allow 24 hours for all repeat medication requests.
- Schedule 3 and higher medications require a valid veterinary prescription.
- A prescription can only be issued after one of our veterinarians has examined your pet and established a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship.
- Repeat prescriptions may be authorised for up to 6 months, after which your pet will require a follow-up examination.
- Only one month’s supply of medication can be dispensed at a time.
- Regular check-ups help us monitor your pet’s condition, adjust medication where needed, and ensure treatment remains safe and effective.
Repeat Medication Requests
We recommend ordering your pet’s medication at least 24 hours in advance. While many prescriptions are prepared sooner, this allows our team enough time to process your request and have your medication ready for collection, helping to reduce waiting times.
Medication Returns
For the safety of all our patients, we cannot accept medication returns for credit or refund once medication has left the practice, as we cannot verify how it has been stored.
If you have unused, unopened medication that is no longer required, we gratefully accept donations to help support rescue organisations and animals in need.
Thank you for your understanding and for helping us provide safe, responsible, and high-quality veterinary care.

We are proud to be associated with the following charities which we offer discounted rescue rates to. This way we are making a small difference in controlling the pet population, as there are simply not enough homes for all the furry babies out there.
Your support towards these charities will be greatly appreciated.
